Odeceixe, Village & Beaches
Hiking Odeceixe, Costa Vicentina
At the northwest end of the Algarve lies the quiet village of Odeceixe. Winding paths wind a hillside to the village's landmark: the Mill "Moinho Odeceixe". A place to fall in love.
Small quaint town with winding streets, white houses and a windmill as a landmark. First, the view rests on the small mill "Moinho Odeceixe", which rises above the village. Those who climb the steep roads will be rewarded with a view of the red roofs of Odeceixe and the fertile valley of the river. Yes, Odeceixe is located on the small river "Ribeira de Seixe". It flows about 4 miles west of the city to the Atlantic Ocean. From the windmill you can also see the sea and wander the beach "Odeceixe Beach".
Why not miss Odeceixe - Odeceixe is the perfect place for an individual holiday.
But why roam the distance? Odeceixe is too beautiful for that. Winding slopes wind down from the river valley to the mill. Passed the small church "Igreja Matriz Odeceixe", which is halfway. Above, the rustic cemetery. Long white lines of houses are along the way. The roofs are red, the doors and windows are framed by blue or yellow. The tabby kittens sleep on the white walls of the garden. There are narrow corridors and stairs that connect streets, round houses and lead to terraces past. The flowers adorn the entrances, the laundry is hung through the streets to dry.
Life happens around the square "Largo 1º de Maio". Some restaurants, where delicious and cheap food can be eaten, are available here. Also some small shops and a mini market.
The small town is somewhat isolated, far to the northwest of the Algarve. Away from the crowds of tourists that can be found between Portimao and Albufeira. Great hotel complexes, innumerable restaurants and nightlife? It does not exist here. In Odeceixe is calm and contemplative. Lying on the beach, going for a little walk, maybe doing a surf lesson. If you do not want to miss a bit of the hustle and bustle, you can easily reach the city "Lagos" by car or bus.
Odeceixe is perhaps the most beautiful place in the Algarve
On foot to explore the picturesque Odeceixe! The winding roads to the historic mill "Odeceixe Mill". Half way to the small church "Igreja Matriz Odeceixe". Narrow streets, steep stairs and cobblestones. White houses, red roofs, colorful flowers. An exciting experience!
The beach of Odeceixe is popular with surfers and families and there is a small bay called Praia de Adega, in the south, where you can walk or rest to stay naked if you wish. There are some kiosks overlooking the beach where you can have a drink or eat something while enjoying the view. From the normal beach, not the naturist!
Nearby is my # 3 dream beach on the west coast: Portugal, Algarve, West Coast, Odeceixe, Odeceixe Beach.
In the vicinity of Odeceixe are two beaches that are next to each other. At the mouth of Ribeira de Seixe lies the beautiful sand dune of the beach and Odeceixe and next to the nudist beach of Praia das Adegas.
The beach "Odeceixe Beach" is a promontory completely covered with sand and looks like a great dune. It separates the river "Ribeira de Seixe", which flows here in the Atlantic. It follows its path along the beach in two wide arches, halfway to the beach, then flows into the sea north of the valley.
The river "Ribeira de Seixe" is a natural paradise.
Go fishing or canoeing in the river. Birds can be seen and maybe even an otter comes along the way. On the beach "Odeceixe beach" there is canoe hire.
